Hey guys, so I've tried everything to speed up my intercept. I have task killers and what not and my phone still freezes and is very slow. Is there ANY way to make my phone more usable(would rooting make it faster)? If not, do you guys know where i can buy a cheap used Evo, due to the fact that i spent my upgrade funds on this phone.

I keep seeing folks say this phone is slow and I always end up asking myself the same questions.

  • What are they doing on the phone that requires massive amounts of speed?

  • Do they know that this is simply a cell phone?
  • What are they comparing it's speed to?

I had the same issue, I must have installed an app that swamped it.  I'm suspecting it as Lookout.  Anyway, I just reset the phone and reloaded it.  Don't forget to backup your contacts to the SD Card first though

Not only is the device a cellphone (A smart one but still) when loading
down your Intercept with every App you find/like will also deplete your
available memory.

Too many Apps running will slow your phone to a crawl.  Try a reset
and see if that helps bring back some of the response time.

This is probably the most laughable post I've read on this forum.
1. It's not about having "massive amounts of speed" it's about having the phone run SMOOTHLY and having no delays when switching screens or opening/closing apps.
2. "Simply a cell phone"?  Are you f'n kidding me?  "Simply a cell phone" is one of those flip phones that we had 4 years ago that WASN'T a smart phone and couldn't run apps.
3. I've compared my phone to my fathers Hero and it's waaaaaaay faster than my Intercept, even with me running 2.2.

If the response is delayed by few seconds then one should be able to cope with the delay. If some function or App or action just hangs and does not do anything for say within 10-15 seconds then there is something wrong with the phone hardware or software or even with 3G Data connection. This smart phone is made for multitasking but can it handle two heavy duty Apps at the same time - e.g. Playing Angry Bird and also trying to upload a big file from phone to some site? Phone performance is a function of CPU, Memory, Base band Radio, Data Connection and efficiently written Operating System, Apps and usage. I would suggest to use internet on home PC while at home or office PC while in the office for heavy duty and urgent tasks. For road, I would suggest use powerful tablet in combination with Bluetooth tethering with phone for 3G Data access.

Copied from my other post: It's a little problem with 2.2 its a bit slower than 2.1 in some cases because all the cool feature and customization. You gotta break 2.2 in a little bit, use it a bit more so it don't feel shy. Go to the bottom, my post http://www.samsunginterceptforum.com/general-samsung-intercept-discussion/vm-froyo-running-slow/ Please reply and thank me so I know how it works.

That's simply not true. Froyo contains updated code to improve performance in many, many ways over 2.1. Check out the official Android developers blog here.

Lets not forget apps that contain advertisements. This can and will slow down system performance and your data latency (seriously, do we really know what apps are dialing home to report your surfing habits?). Sometimes sluggish behavior can also be the result of poorly written applications. For instance, an app with a memory leak can bring a cell phone down to it's knees. This can also be the case with the carriers built in applications as well, in which case we are stuck with it unless one of two things happen. You root your phone and delete the crapware, or the programmer actually updates their software. Be vigilant with your app updates and delete apps with ads.

Now I'm not saying this is the case for everyone with a slow cell. Just stating other factors that need to also be considered.

As that may be true to a point, remember more than half vm people who got the update noticed lag at some point of testing the phone out; especially with the home button.

Any official numbers from VM to verify this?
