I have a Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept with a 16GB Class 10 SD card.
So I waited and waited before rooting my Android. When I first got it there were many stories of bricking and since I had time before I had to depend on it I just waited. So, I started with a fresh hard reset / factory restore of Virgin Mobile's Samsung Intercept Froyo 2.2.2 and just recently I rooted it with the following directions:
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/index.php?topic=15586.0It was simple, just worked, and I didn't even HAVE to use my PC to make it happen.
I followed that up with using the same tool to install the CM01 Recovery.
Again, no problems.
I removed the startup / shutdown noise (

I removed the bloatware. (

Now that I am rooted and have the CM01 however, the questions began...
###
I had long since been able to move apps to the SD card using the OS tool; Settings, Applications, Manage Applications.... but after hearing the hype prior to downloading I installed APP2SD and found it quite useful. After rooting I began researching having an APP2SD partition, and a swap partition. There was much conflicting information about the swap partition and I didn't know if the APP2SD partition was actually required after the Froyo update hit... but unable to clearly determine the case, and wanting the best performance I could get I found some dirs and did a 3 partition job on my card anyway using the following steps:
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/index.php?topic=8319.0I am not entirely certain that it's being utilized as I'd hoped though.
Partition 1: (the rest), FAT32
Partition 2: 1GB, ext3
Partition 3: 256MB, linux swap (iirc, may have been 128mb)
After completeing this I isntalled APPS2SD since that is what was listed in the dirs... not APP2SD which is what I was familiar with. The phone hasn't gotten 100% stuck and hung up like it used to yet and hasn't REQUIRED hourly reboots or performed unrequested reboots but also I haven't installed an aweful lot of stuff so far.
So:
1. Swap Partition
Does a swap partition benefit the OS? I've read lots of stuff from it is actually detrimental (it interferes with the integrated paging design of the OS and introduces much slower 'memory) to it fixes all the lag by itself.
2. APPS2SD, APP2SD etc... partition.
I assumed that after setting up the partition the way it was suggested, that the indicated software would AUTOMAGICALLY move new apps to the SD card where possible. This doesn't appear to happen since it complained of me running out of room the first time I tried to log into Google Market from my PC and install all my apps back to the phone remotely.
Should I be using APP2SD, APPS2SD, or any of the myriad other name stealers out there? Should I not bother with a partition for this under Froyo?
