I have been eagerly waiting on my Froyo update, then I got it 2 days ago. Once downloaded, I noticed that there was an icon in the app tray that apperared to do something with the standard android launcher, but the name of the icon looked like a file name with a "." Included. It dissapeared so fast once my other apps loaded, that I wasn't able to see exactly what it was. Then I started to do what I have been waiting to do, move apps to sd. Most of the time after the move to sd was complete, the app would initiate a force stop giving a process.com.android.launcher error. I checked the sd to see if the apps had actually transferred. They were there, and according to phone I doubled my system memory. I tried other launchers for app 2 sd but they all use the android app manager for that function. It is still an issue, but not big enough for me to do a factory reset to correct the problem and lose all my paid for apps. The reset erases google marketplace purchases. It still moves the apps but gets the error after it is complete.
I did have problem with the one app that I use most and was panicking and desperate to fix. It is electrum beat and music making app that I use to create electronic music. On 2.1 it ran just fine on 31mb, other than a memory crash. I'm pretty sure I did it myself. In 2.1, electrum was stored on phone, but the samples and save data were on sd in the approprate electrum folder. You downloaded sample/loop packs from the market, then opened the app to install wav files into sd folders. It then instructed you to uninstall the sample pack to free up memory. I had also spent HOURS on my PC cutting, converting, and copying my own samples and loops to sd. I always made a backup of all the samples, including the marketplace app samples and kept them on sd. I discovered that only samples missing were all the marketplace paks (8 in all, 8-14mb in size) but all of my samples remained. I used my backup that was created in 2.1 and put the factory samples back in place. It then gave memory errors that prevented other files to load. I decided to load a song that contained nothing but my sample files and electrum memory crashed on me. I created and loaded the song on 2.1 with 31mb available ram, now it memory crashed with 61mb available. I was not about to lose this app I payed for, so I uninstalled electrum, redownloaded it along with the marketplace packs and re-installed. I decided to uninstall all of my other apps that were transferred with the update, and had no apps on ram other than the factory ones. It went from 61 to 96mb available ram. I opened electrum and all was working again. I don't know if electrum needs more ram now, or I had created the probem using the factory wav files from my backup instead of redownloading them from the marketplace. Now, I am too paranoid to download an app that isn't able to go on sd. I've been trying to replace larger apps like TuneInRadio that won't move to sd. I refuse to use any app that doesn't have that option.
Make SURE to uninstall any device managers/cache cleaners/lookout as they can interfere with the new android device manager that comes with froyo. This one is ACTUALLY kills apps and is the best so far at memory management.
I hope this provides insight or clues for other issues related to froyo update. If you're holding out, then your missing out. The sd storage and device manager almost make up for the lack of Flash.
