I don't know if I'm just missing something or what but it seems like after I flashed to 2.1 I no longer have the ability to assign a ringtone to an individual contact by editing the contact information.

I used to go to my contacts, long-press a contact and choose Edit, then at the very bottom there was a way to choose the ringtone for that contact. Now the whole Edit Contact area looks a little different and there is no way to choose their contact.

Am I missing something or was this ability actually removed? I had to download Ringo Lite to do this but I'd much rather not require a third-party app for something it used to do anyway.

I just checked and your right! The option to assign individual ringtones to specific contacts.  I know this feature was on 1.5.   It better be back on official 2.1.  I'd hate to actually lose a feature like that.

go to contacts, view specific contact, hit menu, choose options. You can change ringtone there.

Wow, awesome! Thank you! I don't understand why they would have moved it like that. It kinda seems buried now. I loved how it was just at the bottom of the Edit Contact area.

I know this posting a a bit old. This is more for the new readers such as myself. I found Ringo Lite in the Market. It is a free app that allows you to select a a ringtone and SMS ringtone for any contact. Simple, easy to use.

I feel like the new 2.1 version, you need a secret handshake in order to select a ringtone for a contact. Oh well, i am happy with Ringo Lite.

I keep reading the path to assigning a ringtone to a specific contact is through the contact menu where you select options.  Well, I don't have an options option.  Am I missing something, or has this feature beem removed?

This post was actually started on the Samsung Moment forum. For some reason when the Intercept forum was created all the threads were copied over. So this thread wasn't created specifically for the Samsung Intercept.

However I have noticed on my wife's Intercept that the ability to assign ringtones seems to only appear for the contacts that are listed as being in the "phone" rather than being from a Google account, Facebook, MySpace, etc.

I need to look into it more because her contacts are synced with her Google account so it seems stupid that she can't set a ringtone for a specific contact just because it is a linked contact. So far the only way I've found around this is to create a new contact to be stored in the phone, set the ringtone, then link the other contact to the new contact. Having to do that with all your contacts then becomes a huge hassle.

I will look into this more but has anyone else found a solution?
