http://shop.sprint.com/en/software_downloads/pda_smartphone/samsung_intercept.shtml

Go here and follow the instructions, download is at the bottom of the page. There is a PDF instruction file to follow.

or

Thanks to GST Racer for the below :
1. download the upgrade, either the "leaked" official version, or from sprint when it becomes available.

2. BACKUP EVERYTHING.  Its good to back-up, regardless of what youre doing.  I use a program called MyBackup, which saves everything, apps, contacts, etc, to your SDcard.  Then I plug the phone in the computer, let the windows explorer window open up, highlight EVERYTHING, and copy it to a folder on the computer.

3.  Take the 2.1 file you downloaded, as far as I know the leaked version has a ".md5" on the end of it.  Right-click, rename, and erase that ".md5", so the last letters on the file are ".tar".  It should then turn into a zip file, aka, the little WinZip icon, or whatever your zipping utility is.

4.  Go to your harddrive, Program Files/Samsung Electronics/Models/Binary, and move the file thats already in there to some other folder on your harddrive, thus saving it for future use if needed.  I have a folder on my C:/ labled "Phone", and I keep all my downloaded apps, back-ups, a list of contacts, web pages, old roms, old OS 1.5, etc.

5.  Place your newly downloaded 2.1 Upgrade file in this folder.  Do NOT unzip it, put the zip file itself in the folder.

6.  Open the Sprint Update Utility, and follow the directions for updating.  Remember to boot your phone into Download Mode, by shutting it off and then holding volume down+camera+end, in that order.  a black screen with a picture of a...floppy disc(i guess) should appear.  In the picture of the Phone and computer, make sure the arrows are going from the phone to the computer.  I guess you cant hit next unless it is connected, so no worries.

7.  When you get to the "Start Update" page, make sure it says "Ready" in the lower left corner, and in the lower right corner is says "Com Connected".  Press start.

8.  For me, the upgrade took about 3 minutes.  But, the first time I started it, nothing happened.  I clicked start, nothing happened, and in the lower left corner was a bunch of question marks. This is probably ok, no need to worry.  I just unplugged the usb cable, removed/replaced the battery, and started over.  The second time, worked like a charm.

9.  After everything is updated your phone should start back up.  Sync your account, and then download MyBackup from the marketplace.  Then restore the Applications and then the Contacts.

10.  That should be it, after that its just a matter of tweaking everything to how you want it.

sorry to jack your thread a bit Z:
if yall are having an issue with the old updater and the new one i have uploaded the .tar by itself which works in the old swupdater program , so there is no need to install the new one. Just drop the .md5 off the end before you place it in the binary folder.

Keep in mind root is not yet possible on this so you will be without it until we get it. So if this is a problem for you DO NOT FLASH. Of course you can always flash back to ddo3 with the updater and back to dd10/dd16.

this may be a dumb question...but it doesnt say anything about contacts in the update instructions..Do I need to back them up or are they saved on the sd card also?  On a lighter note...my dumbass didnt charge my phone last night for the first time and of course now today of all days they release it lol...so now i have to wait about 2 hours or so for my phone to charge, managing to make myself wait just a lil bit longer for this update...ugh

Seriously? The official 2.1 update? Where did this info come from?

I'm half-expecting banners and fireworks and celebration music when I go to the Sprint web site to find out anything about it if it's really officially released.... instead I see that stupid maintenance page  Cry

and if the site is unavailable for some reason this is the file in the binary. If you have the old update tool installed just use the file only thing you have to do is drop the .md5 extention off of the end. if using the new one you must keep the extention.

I'm stuck at the Updating Do Not Disconnect screen. Going on five minutes. No blue status bar movement at all. Sigh.

EDIT: I meant to say that there had been no movement period. Or still. Or something. It definitely told me NOT to pull the usb off, but work is closing. Had no choice. Phone powered back on, but seems real sluggish. Widgets working, Twitter updates, etc. I tried doing it myself. Learned my lesson. I'll wait and see the tech guys.

Thoughts so far is its stable and the audio bug is gone woohoo!!!. Also reports of better gps locks like on dd16. Steps are pretty set on getting root back too. Seems you just have to rename the tar file .tar instead of .tar.md5 and you can flash it with the old updater. then you can load recovery and use the zip to get root. So far everything else that use to work seems to work. They may have to deodex files again for Theme Rom's though.

I downloaded and installed the file from the Sprint Update page, removed the "md5" at the end of the file and started to run the update tool. I powered my phone off, removed the battery, put it back in. pressed vol.down, camera and power, then plugged it in.... and nothing is happening. I did this before when I flashed to DD03 and it worked fine with finding my phone plugged in, finding the drivers, but this time it will not do anything. At first it kept failing to find drivers in every USB port I tried. So I started over completely and now it doesn't do anything at all. It just sits at the "Plug the USB cable into the phone and PC" screen.

Does anyone know what went wrong?

Grrr... I will have to wait until tonight to load it,  wasted 20 minutes trying to install it before work was over and now it's too late.

I couldn't do the step where you hold the volume button down, End button, and camera button all at the same time.  I have Open Home, so if I hold down the camera button it tries to take a screenshot.  I disabled that option.  I also have "PRO Zoom Camera 5X" so if I hold the camera button down, then Pro Zoom automatically starts, so I'll un-install that.  Now that I figured that out, it's too late.

P.S.

I used a free app called App Dragon App Lister by stonedonkey that makes a text list of your apps and emails it to you so that you can remember what apps you have installed.  I have about 200 I think, so this will help me remember.

do you by chance have the usb debugging mofde on on your phone in settings? Another thing to check would be are you using the old updater or the old updater. the new updater will want the file with md5 the old updater will use the .tar file.
