@super noob. The phone should be powered off when doing the key sequence.

do you by chance have the usb debugging mofde on on your phone in settings? Another thing to check would be are you using the old updater or the old updater. the new updater will want the file with md5 the old updater will use the .tar file.

I don't think I have USB Debugging Mode on. It should be off by default, right? I don't think I ever had any reason to change it. Do you know how I could check this?

I'm not 100% sure if I have the new or old updater. I just went to that download page and clicked the "Download" link and installed the SamsungIntercept_Update tool. When I went to the Binary folder there was a DD03_REL.tar and a DE03_REL.tar.md5

I tried it with both files in there, with just the "md5", then with changing the "md5" to just a "tar". It never gets as far as recognizing my phone connected to the USB port. Which is weird because I flashed it with DD03 (which was still in the folder) and it worked perfectly without any problems at all. Now it just doesn't see my phone.

Should I try uninstalling the drivers for my phone completely from my computer?

EDIT:
I found the USB Debugging mode and it was off.

anything that is in the bin folder will need to be removed. The only file should be the new one. USB debugging is off by default. try reinstalling the drivers from the sprint page. I do not believe a renamed file will work with the new updater. you can check out the SDX-developers.com site and get an idea of what the best way to do this is.

@angelalois. This is a clean wipe. So far it has been suggested not to do a backup as the backedup files may not function with the new build or be outdated. it is best to reinstall the apps. If they are paid apps it should allow you to reinstall without paying. If it does not let you you can send an email to the developer and they should send you the file. You contacts of course get backed up to google contacts so once you sync that the contacts will reappear. If you want your text msgs however I would suggest getting an app that alows you to save them to your sdcard and then installing the update.

Alright I'm about to lose it.

I renamed the old SWUpdate to preserve it, installed the new SWUpdate, grabbed the .tar.md5 file, renamed it .tar, stuck it in the Binary folder for the old software updater and then proceeded to run the old SWUpdate program.  Follow the battery ejection, boot into download mode, plug in the phone and.....no drivers.  Device manager says "!M900", so I try to direct it to any drivers I have for the darn thing, and it says none will work.

Ok, so disconnect the USB cable, I boot into DD10, plug the phone in and it recognizes the phone no problem.  I uninstall the device from device manager, scan for hardware changes, it finds it again no sweat.

Ok, I shut down the phone, boot back into download mode after running the SWupdate program and....no drivers.  What am I doing wrong here?  I cannot find, nor will the computer find, any suitable drivers for the update mode.

Ok I was having problems but I figured it out.

I completely UNINSTALLED the updater and the drivers for my phone. I went into my computers Control Panel and then Programs and Features and removed anything that said "Samsung" that I felt was related to my phone. Then I reinstalled the updater downloaded from the Intercept update page, restarted my computer and started the whole process from scratch.

It worked perfectly! Going into "About The Phone" shows the DE03 update.

Thank you Risket!

There is some sort of driver conflict between the old and new updater if you install the new on to get the tar without uninstalling the old one.

I uninstalled everything Samsung, reinstalled the C14 SWUpdate tool, connected, and everything went fine.

1000 thank yous!

Major question. Currently my 90lb PC is not setup. So i am using my lighter PowerBook G4 Mac computer. It's old, but it does the trick. Ok, so now the real question. Can i still update my phone without windows. As i pointed out, it's a G4, which means no boot camp and stuff. Anyways, just curious if anyone knows.

Have you tried forcing an unexpected reboot?

Updated and rooted thanks to JoeyKrim.

It runs nicely. It seems a lot more stable that DD10 was, and the battery is a lot happier as well. Mind you, I was able to go two days, finally, on one charge in DD10.

More findings will be posted as they come.
