Found this app in search for VOIP google Voice alternative since GV used carrier minuets. And Gizmo5 need an invite sold on Fleabay. This company is similar to Magic Jack except you don't need to leave your PC on all the time to use it and they just released a free android app. http://www.nettalk.com/smartphone.
Only thing is it's in beta so it may have some rough edges. But after i used it I checked with my carrier and no minuets were used which makes me happy.

Thanks for the tip.  I sometimes use nettalk's tk6000 at home and for the most part the service is great.  It does have its hiccups though.  My *guess* is that this is temporarily a free service and that eventually nettalk will charge a low fee for it, so enjoy it now while you can. lol

It's nice to see you didn't any minutes deducted.

Has anyone tried this yet?  Is this the only way to make calls without using our phone minutes?

Only other option I've noticed were a couple of PTT application options
as an alternative.  I myself use TiKL.  It works much like Nextel's old
Push To Talk and only uses data (Which is unlimited on VM)

Keep in mind it does not allow you to communicate with Sprint Users
through their PTT network.  However Android users can download and
use it if the perosn they want to chat with is listed as a contact.

I created a NetTALK account and can make calls through the NetTALK app.

BUT, when I place a call I can hear the called party but they cannot hear me.

Anyone else have this issue?

By the by, I am on VirginMobile.

I don't think the Mic works, internally or via 3.5 jack, with the NetTalk App.

Yeah that is what it seems like.  THe MIC seems to be deactivated when you are using the app.  Which makes no sense.

I downloaded this app and it seems to work fine.  I used it for a few calls from Afghanistan back to the states.  I haven't even activated my phone yet and it still works.  I am using it with a headset w/mic so the speakerphone issue doesn't really matter.

The only downside is sometimes I have to try a few times to get the call to go through.

For free... it works great.
