CLIFF NOTES AT BOTTOM OF POST

As of April 2010, I was on a phone plan with  my ex-girlfriend and her family.  We got the plan back when we were dating, of course.

I REALLY needed to get off that plan, because I didn't want anything to do with her.  Plus it was awkward.  I knew that I really wanted the HTC Evo 4g phone, but at the time, no release date was available, and I was hearing late 2010 would be the release.

A really good buddy of mine had lost his job, had to sell his car and buy a clunker, moved back in with his mom.  He needed to get a cell phone, but his credit wasnt so hot, so he knew it would be tough to get one.  I suggested he get on a plan with me, so we could split the bill.  I told him I wanted to wait until the Evo came out, but he needed a phone quick, BUT I didn't want to miss the chance to not pay full retail price for that phone.

Anyways, we were at the mall, and we stopped into Verizon, then T-Mobile, then a Sprint kiosk.  The guy showed us the intercept, and we both liked it.  I didn't like the idea of skipping out on the Evo, but whatever.  I didn't know a release date, or even a contract price, so I just went with the Intercept.

I absolutely love the intercept, and after flashing different ROMs on it and other features, I love it even more.  But I still like all the features that the Evo offers; faster processor, new system, bigger screen, etc.

My sister and her husband are on AT&T, and they pay like 200 a month for their plan.  I told them that they could jump on our plan, and told him all the cool details and how cheap it would be for them.  He really likes my phone, and is pysched about doing it.

Now the Evo is to be released in June, for about $199.99 with a contract.  Since thats the same price I paid for the intercept, I was thinking I could get him to buy the Evo, and then we just simply switch phones.

My question is, would any of you trade your Intercept for an Evo 4g, if it wasn't going to cost you anything?  How does the Intercept differ from the Evo?  I'm sure it would be possible to flash custom roms, programs, etc onto it.  The Evo doesnt have a physical keyboard, but I don't even use the physical keyboard on the intercept, so it's not a big deal to me, and I know the 4g network isnt fully established yet.  Any other disadvantages that you know of?  Just looking for you opinions.

CLIFF NOTES

-Wanted an HTC Evo 4g, but got a intercept
-Have a chance to get an HTC Evo 4g basically for free
-Looking for opinions on whether or not to make the switch

I also understand the amount of help I've gotten from this board and other sites as far as modding the intercept, and I appreciate all of that, and I'm taking everything into consideration.

i am buying an evo personally on launch, just like i did with the intercept

if i were your sisters husband i wouldnt trade you the evo for your intercept and he may do that once he sees the evo....youre better off selling him the intercept and buying the evo as another line so he doesnt get the evo in his hands....at least thats my opinion

Haha, I thought about that too.  I'm counting on the fact that he doesnt seem like the type to go absolutely nuts over a phone, and I've been showcasing my phone like crazy around him, with the Swype and voice-to-text, live wallpapers, etc.  He loves it.  If we went through with it, it would probably be where we do it right at the store.  So he doesnt get much chance to mess with it.  Plus the Evo doesnt have a physical keyboard, so I think he would be more for the Intercept.

Would the evo have everything that the intercept could do, such as being able to add swype, live wallpapers, upgrade to an SDX rom, etc?  I love my intercept, but the key features I like about the Evo are the 8mp camera, the front camera, bigger screen (4.3"), HD video, and ability to get 4g.  If I cant put swype on it, I think I'd have a problem with it, as texting is a huge deal.  Did I mention I like swype?

I'll take it if you don't!!!! I want an EVO so bad.  I do love the Intercept and I don't regret getting it as I needed to switch carriers and at the time that was the best choice on Sprint.  I would trade up in a second if I could.  To bad times are hard and a used intercept isn't worth more then $200.

1Ghz SNAPDRAGON...that should be really all I got to say...and it's 4G!(Drools all over...lol)

Personally, coming from the Instinct, I couldn't go back to only having a virtual keyboard. The physical keyboard is much better suited to long texts, emails, editing documents and most MOST importantly Snesoid/Gensoid.  Thanks to the Intercept I'm rarely on my PC anymore (unless I'm flashing my phone of course).  I think things would be different without the convenience of the physical keyboard.

Well, I rarely touch the physical keyboard now.  When I first got the phone, thats all I used, and I've slowly shifted to ONLY the vk.  I could live without it in exchange for the Evo features.

Well, then.  Looks like your problem is solved.  Physical keyboard aside, Android is android and the Evo obviously has the better hardware.  Take the plunge.

Alright.  I guess I was just hoping that it could still be as customizable as the intercept.  Talked to my sisters husband today.  He says he loves the evo lol.  But I think he'll do the deal with me.

haha, dont let him get the evo in his hands....everyone wants new!

as far as customization, i guarantee the evo will be more customizable than the intercept....the guys @ xda will be cooking up roms for it for sure

I just did something similar with my girlfriend and her mother. I had a BB Tour at the time, and since she wanted a BB and I wanted to get an Android phone, added the Intercept.
At that mount I had the nice people at Best Buy contact Sprint to get the Intercept moved over to my number and the BB on to her number. It worked out in two ways.

1: I got the Intercept
2: My Upgrade date didn't change. So that means, come Oct when my 12 months is up, an Evo will be in my possession, and my gf will be getting my Intercept.

I'd say wait for the Evo. I have the Intercept and love it but if they Qwerty keyboard isn't much of a deciding factor for you, you'd probably really enjoy the Evo.

Personally I'm not interested in TouchWiz at all. I just don't like the way it looks are how the "home screen" works. I also don't know much about TouchWiz. Mainly because whenever I've watched a video of a phone that used it I was immediately turned off and left.
