Hey guys, been snooping around and figured I'd join up to try and get some solid advice from other Intercept users.   Both my wife and I have Intercepts for the past year or so and I have to say I've been more than frustrated with both of them.  We're on Sprint and both phones are running 2.2.1.  They both suffer from being horribly slow to load just about everything, they will freeze pretty regularly or just up and reboot on their own and neither of them have had a working gps since the update from 2.1.

I've been looking around at the possibility of rooting them to try and help things out.  I figured for one I could remove all the bloatware since neither of us use any of those apps but not sure how much that would help or if there's something else I should do.   Thanks in advance for any solid advice you guys can provide!

So I said screw it and decided to start playing around with it some.   I did the root or whatever in this link...  >      http://forum.sdx-developers.com/index.php?topic=15586.msg194417#msg194417

It worked and says it's rooted but now I have no idea where to go from here.  lol

When you get your phone from a mobile carrier, you have Guest access. When you root your phone, you have Admin access. Rooting the phone does not change how the phone runs, but adding a custom rom will do wonders and practically make it a new phone. Adding a new rom can increase the phones performance and battery life, and also gets rid of the bloatware. Research the roms available for the Intercept that you have (Sprint or VM... you have to choose the one for the carrier you have, otherwise it can cause issues down the road) and see what is out that that will suit your needs. Rooting is the hardest part, so you're over the hump! Adding a custom rom is the easy part, and you'll find that eventually you can flash a new rom in your sleep.

Almost forgot. Now that you're rooted you will want to get what the majority of other rooted users get to make and keep backups of your phone. Snag and purchase Titanium Backup Pro from the Market, and if you have a PC get Dropbox (free) so you can also make backups of your phone to your PC. Titanium Backup has options specifically for Dropbox to make things easier. ;)

Thanks for the info!   I ended up getting systemapp remover yesterday and went to town on my phone.  I removed quite a few apps I have installed but don't frequently use, the only was I was partial to keeping but removed because it constantly opens on it's own was the photobucket app.  I also removed most of the bloatware such as amazon mp3, the sprint nfl, tv, navigation and nascar apps, voice dialer, where, keyboard slide counter and even facebook since I never use it.  Seems to have helped already but then again that could just be me thinking it has.

One of the things that keeps popping up in ATK is com.android.inputmethod.latin which I was trying to decide if it was safe to remove or not, couldn't find any info of anyone else messing with it so for now I haven't touched it.

Just with what I've done so far I've managed to get the free memory (according to the top on ATK) from around 15-20M up to around 45-50M.  I've started looking around for rom's however they seem pretty limited for a sprint intercept.  Anything in specific I should look for on one or any tips?    TIA!
