I have had my intercept for about 5 moths now pry the best prepaid android that i have gotten! now i am looking to see if there are anyways to speed it up.

Get a task killer.  Some people are for them, some people are against them. Personally for me, it works and I've never had any problem with it.

You might want to get a cache clearer too, I use app2sd and it works great for me.

Also, don't let your free space get below 20mb otherwise it will run super slow.

You could try rooting and installing a custom rom to see if that will speed things up. Check the XDA forums for more info on the Intercept for rooting and custom roms.

As for task killers... they are extremely bad for the Android. They interfere with how the operating system on the phone (Linux) is designed to work. If you Google for it, you'll find dozens of articles like the following;
