Who loves the Bejeweled Demo???  Not I... along with a bunch of other crap that come pre loaded and NON-Uninstallable...

Someone had asked if there is any benefit to rooting, well, i think this could qualify.

Thanks goes to glitch77 over at
http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3234330
for finding this:
Edit:  I just noticed that glitch77 is on this forum too... thanks for the finds!!!

Quote
code:
cd system
cd app
cat Bejeweled.apk > /sdcard/Bejeweled.apk
rm Bejeweled.apk
When you are finished deleting apps, type 'reboot'.

EDIT 1: 12/12/2009: i threw this table together to keep better track of the apps we know about
**hint: anyone who has microsoft excel installed on their machine, right click anywhere on the table below and click "export to microsoft excel" (it makes it easier to read)

Edite 3: I think it's no big deal to kill any odex that is related to any apk that you decide to remove

also i attached a text doc you can use to quickly backup all of your apps to the sdcard... then you can just go "RM" crazy, and report back your finds

Dev tools installs but the "Development Settings" session crashes.

I'm seeing some permission denied errors via logcat when trying to launch the development settings.

Hello! First post.

First of all great work guys.

I've only had my phone for about a week but the annoying Sprint App's all auto loading all the time eventually pointed me to you guys so I have rooted it and removed the sprint apps.

I wanted to mention a few additional apps that can be safely removed.

SN21_Samsung_Q-1187-signed.apk - Sprint Navigation
Term.apk - I assume Terminal. I noticed it was there before and after I tried to install Terminal Emulator from the Market, it failed before removing Term.apk with a Improperly Signed error and after removing Term.apk it failed with a Incompatible Update error, guess its just not going to run.

NFL_prod.apk was already mentioned, however I noticed that the NFL app was still loaded randomly in the background and was still in the App tray sooo upon some snooping I found that applications are stored in another folder to "/data/app"

I noticed many apps in this folder that strangely don't appear at all in the "/system/app" folder, odd that applications would be stored in two locations, the naming convention is also very different in the /data/app folder, reminded me of Unix/Mac OS X

Anyways you can remove "com.handson.h2o.nfl.apk" to completely remove the NFL App/Widget.

Just thought I'd chime in if anyone is interested in removing Sprint Navigation/NFL Mobile Live.

Hope we see some custom ROM's soon. :)

i dont know where you got the backupapps.sh

...

i basically adb'd into root mode, and then copied all the text from notepad (backupallapps.txt) and right-click-pasted it right into my adb shell...

from there it let me copy on the sdcard just fine

***********
side note: anyone get better terminal emulator (the 4$ version) to work? i already bought/returned it since it kept crashing... i'd buy it again, but after the second purchase android wont let you return.

I know you used notepad :)

I just turned it into a script, rather than copying and pasting, and it had a bunch of trailing characters on the end of each line, because windows uses the newline and carrige return char, whereas linux uses only the newline.

ill have it for you in a second, but it will probably be .tar, because I dont know how to zip somthing in linux :(

EDIT: the file is 34MB, and max attachment size is 2MB

Do you have somewhere to upload it?

Also, here is the script I used to cat them to /media/apps instead
just create the apps folder with $mkdir /media/apps

i do** have a place you can upload it to me....

kindof....

upload it to your google site... (incredibly easy to make, and really usefull for sending large files to plp [including yourself])

http://www.google.com/sites
log in/click on create page/ and then make it a file cabinet...

then after uploading, all you need to do is either make your page public

Edit 1: Thanks, I just got a copy from one of you!!!

Hey guys!  guess what?!  I finally did it!  I just wanted to contribute some other things that I took off with no problems.

KeyBoardSlideUpCounter.apk and .odex
---A slider counter?  Not really sure what it is but I always kill it and it never comes back so good bye.

Brightness.apk and .odex
---Same thing.  Killed it and no differences so, boom, gone.

FileViewer.apk and .odex
---I dunno about y'all but mine didn't work/sucked so I jus "click, click..." rm it.

xms-android-1.0.42-prod.apk
---The photo places app.  rm.

SDSA.apk
---Some sprint device service app bs.  What's that?  No purpose?  rm.

I also played around with the "ImProvider" apk and odex files.  These however are not safe to rm.  I thought it dealt with "im.apk" but it has something more to do with Google Talk I think.  Either way it was giving me a force close error so I put it back.

Weee!  that was fun.  next task is persistant root.

P.S.
I tried to go into /data/app to get "com.handson.h2o.nfl.apk" but it wasn't there.
So yeah.... I dunno but I don't have any residual nfl apps or widgets.
