F.Y.I. I would not do a full root on the Intercept until 2.3 via OTA.  Until then I would just do a temp root.  But that's is just me.

That's probably not going to happen for quite some time. They'll release a much newer phone with 2.3 on it long before they update the Intercept. That's how they get you to upgrade your phone.  Wink

As long as they do it right around income tax return time, it's all good.... my daughter will get my SI and I'll get the fancy new phone lol.  Tongue Cool

SDX-Developers Member kuroyoma has posted a very good link for - One Click Root And Unroot For Froyo Samsung Intercept from your Windows:

http://forum.sdx-developers.com/intercept-development-2-2/one-click-root-and-unroot-for-froyo-intercept-for-windows-(updated)/

This uses ADB, rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin exploit and su binary, and Busybox App.

Please read the above thread completely to understand and get answers for any questions that you have.

Easy Instructions:

Download the zip file to C:\ on your Windows PC

Unzip the file using Winzip or similar tool (Search on Google for Winzip downlaod)

It will extract in folder - InterceptFroyoRoot v0.2

Using Windows Explorer open C:\InterceptFroyoRoot v0.2 folder.

Do not click or double click on any of the .bat files yet.

Open all .sh files (one at a time in notepad ) and replace /dev/block/stl9 with /dev/block/stl5 and save .sh files. This is needed because to correct the mount path in Samsung Intercept is /dev/block/stl5 for /system.

To Root:

Turn on USB Debugging on your Samsung Intercept phone.

(Home -> Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging Check this option)

Connect your Samsung Intercept to USB port on your Windows PC.

From Windows Explorer, go to C:\InterceptFroyoRoot v0.2

double click on START_ROOT.bat

Wait and check the output on PC screen...

To Unroot:

Turn on USB Debugging on your Samsung Intercept phone.

(Home -> Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging Check this option)

Connect your Samsung Intercept to USB port on your Windows PC.

From Windows Explorer, go to C:\InterceptFroyoRoot v0.2

double click on START_UNROOT.bat

Wait and check the output on PC screen...

This method was the only one that worked from me.  I've got the Samsung Intercept on Virgin Mobile running Froyo.  I probably tried 6 other rooting methods but this was the only one that worked.  Also I had to reset my phone before it would work.

Don't forget to get the intercept drivers for this to work.  :)

Do you really expect there will ever be another update for the intercept? I'd imagine by the time sprint/vm gets around to it, they will figure the phone is too old to be worth updating.

I have to sadly agree that the prospect of seeing another update is slim to
none.  If nothing else, the carriers most likely assume that the hardware itself
will probably need to be replaced at the very least for those that have had the
Intercept for awhile.

I still have and use mine, but I must admit that I've been thinking of changing
over to something with a little more giddy up and go.
