Of course just like anything else we here about this, whether from a forum post or a Sprint employee directly, you can take this with a grain of salt. I just got off the phone with Sprint tech support about some issues I've been having with my phone (big surprise  ::)) and asked him about the 2.1 update. Actually he is the one that brought it up, so I asked him if he had any idea about a release date and he said not specifically but he didn't expect it to be released until the EVO comes out. So judging by that, I'm guessing we got around another month to wait. Again, that is if and only if it's not just another rumor. All I know is I'm tired of waiting. I haven't even had this phone 2 months and the past few days I've felt like throwing it up against a wall. The only thing  good to come out of having this phone lately is the release of Skyfire for Android.

I was told something similar by a Sprint Rep when i was ordering the phone, but i figured it was misinformation considering i believe i was talking to somebody in India. So it seems over the past month that Sprint's top priorities have been redesigning their website(the only part of which that was never everrrr down was the shopping section... no surprise there considering recent history) and the release of the evo.  It really does seem like they are delaying our much awaited update so they can sell more evos and that is pretty sad considering how many of us have been waiting for the (official) 2.1 update. Chalk another one up to the customer first policies of Sprint!

When I took my phone in today to have it tested, the tech said he talked to someone recently who I assume is a bit more "in the know" than he is about all this and they told him that 2.1 is actually finished and has been for a little while so the tech said he didn't know why they don't just go ahead and release it. My money is on the EVO theory.

the evo theory doesnt hold water.....exact reason all these topics are in the "rumor" section

all these darn reps and techs at stores or on the phone/chat have no clue.....ask any of them if they have even heard of this forum, or any android forum for that matter

many people in kansas probably....if we have dd03 and dd10 with as many bugs then id say they may have a finished product now....but they havent had it for long....either way sprint has ALWAYS said q2 2010, recently they have hoped for early q2 which would be any day

I have a theory... 2.1 is done... but if they release it, it breathes new life into the Intercept and MIGHT take some of the steam out of the EVO release.

Sprint might not want the Intercept to be so appealing.

marketing folks can be disturbing in their rationale.

Either way... I'm handing my intercept to my son and I'm picking up the EVO.

Not buying that argument, ive read the evo is being released with 2.5, its 4g capable, its a mobile hotspot, it has an amoled screen (also), it runs the 1ghz snapdragon processor it has 2 cameras (one of which is 8.2(right?)MP), the biggest selling point either way on the evo is going to be the lack of a physical keyboard and that is a personal preference thing, other wise the evo takes the cake no question.

but ya i still doubt itll ship with 2.2 since rumors are itll be out within a month now...so id say all units are already packaged and waiting to be shipped and since 2.2 is still in development it couldnt be flashed to units sitting in boxes....surely they couldnt package and ship in weeks id think it would take a month

Do you think the 4G on the Evo would allow an Android OS update OTA instead of OTW?

Just wondering. What if 2.2 was done and as soon as the Evo's are purchased and turned on, it updates? Doubtful but that would be cool....

LOL, After a Sprint admin. was getting reemed in a forum post on sprint.com for locking 2.1 rumor threads.  She now removed the entire thread announcing that she was locking and removing them after 6+ pages of angry comments from customers such as myself who are understandably annoyed with the lack of communication from Sprint about our much awaited (official) update.  It really is quite sad how much of a disconnect there is between customer and company here.  And pretty f'ed up how they attempt to hide negative feedback from customers by removing their posts.  It's not like it is a big secret how much of a joke Sprint and theyre customer service/relations are in the wireless community, this update fiasco just magnifies it further.  I love my plan and my service, the price is certainly right to me, but this whole situation is sad to me.  The runaround on hold for a half hour or so to get help with a technical problem is one thing, but this whole cloak and dagger thing they have going with this update is pretty ridiculous....sorry this turned into a rant lol

sprint HAS communicated with the customer.... see there twitter....they have officially stated that 2.1 would be released Q2 2010 for the Intercept and Hero if you cant live with that then good luck with your future because thats how ALL companies work, they cannot give an exact date months out because the backlash from all the same people complaining now would complain that they missed the date

everyone was sold a phone running android 1.5! the only phones available in the US with 2.1 @ retail are the moto droid and the nexus one...if you want 2.1 go buy one of them or bite the bullet and do as many of us have on the forums and flash the leaked 2.1 roms

either way sprint has always said Q2 2010 and that has not passed

ok, sprints twitter was updated like an hour ago saying q2 after weeks ago saying early q2.  And obviously this update was a result of yesterdays sprint forum riot which was censored today by being removed completely from the site. Clearly, I did not check sprints twitter before posting, but well when i did check it last earlier this morning it was not there...Good to see some kind of communication about something other than Oprah's No Phone Zone campaign...And yes i could flash my phone but i would prefer the official update that was promised soon when i bought this phone for the second time based on receiving this update
