Please Help!!! I have something odd going on with ringtones, no answers anywhere

Ok I am looking for some major help, I have had no problems in the past downloading or assigning ringtones, but about a week ago I downloaded Zedge and downloaded a few notification ringtones and then went to change my notification ringtone and when the option came up to choose between the Android system and Zedge I pressed Zedge and changed the tone.  Since that moment, every time I receive a text no tone plays, only vibrates.  I have copied the files to my notifications files (like I've done before which has worked) and still nothing.  I also haven't been able to change my ringtone, and every ringtones assigned to a contact.  In my settings, the ringtone I want is selected and so is the notification ringtone.  Everything appears to be just like I want it with all tones until I get an actual call or text-only vibrates for text and just plays my original ringtone for calls.  PLEASE HELP!!!
