Hey there Tiff:

Thanks for the links.  I'll try them at home over the weekend
myself.  I know everyone has been anxiously awaiting this
update for their devices.

It makes it all that sweeter that its an official file and not a
MOD or otherwise altered download that needs to be shoe-
horned into place.

+3 on the Coolness Factor  Cool for you my dear.

I found the file first on the SDK forums and the update went off without a hitch. As long as you haven't modified the OS or rooted your phone it is a no-brainer!

Long live Froyo!

I only have one observation to make about the upgrade that I don't like: my menu buttons don't light up anymore after the upgrade.

They used to light up whenever they were pushed, or whenever you push the optical button in the middle. This feature came in handy when in the dark.

Is this ability gone now, or am I missing a setting somewhere in the updated settings menu?

Uploaded the file onto my SD card using Opera Mobile and had no issue. Followed the steps to the letter and came out with a better phone. Happy I no longer have to check my handset constantly to see if Virgin sent me that text yet. Games are working much better with little to no lag, including Angry Birds. Also ran a couple of Benchmarks and was happy to see that the phone can actually complete Smartbench 2011 without failing...and also found out that according to the results the LG Optimus V is still much more powerful than the Intercept even after the Froyo update...

...oh well, a bit of a crap sandwich but still happy to have a much more useful phone. Thanks for the link and the instructions! You've made my day.

RE: Part 2 Reply

Update was completed without issue.  Renamed the file to 'update' and
as previous instructions stated, the file was placed on the SD Card to be
run in recovery mode.

Total process took about 25 minutes to complete.  If I see an issues, I'll
be sure to post em.  But as of this moment, everything seems to be
running fine.

You have to put the zip file in the phone.  update.zip.  I was confused with the root directory too, but it's just the first place you see where all your folders and files are when you open the SD card.  Don't put it in any folders or navigate anywhere else when you get into the first screen of the SD card.

Did you READ the post?

I'm assuming you're doing this from your phone since there is no reason it should be in the downloads folder.

Find update.zip
Long press and select Move
Select Move Here.
Now it should be in the Root Directory.

Long press on update.zip
Scroll down and select Rename
Change the name to "update"

Like I said.
Follow the instructions.

Can anyone tell me how to get the file to the root of the sd card?  May be a dumb q but...
I've put it in dropbox and so I have the file on the phone.  But when I press and hold, the menu that drops does not offer "sd card" as a location to move it to.  What am I doing wrong here? Tnx!
